FLY TO THE LIGHT

The Upward Look, by Jon Forrest
Fly to the Light

Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky has a huge worship center that around 9,000 people. Sometimes birds get in and the facilities department has the job of getting them out. The last thing you want on Sunday morning is a bird dropping bombs on the people below. Yet, shooting the birds may not be the best approach and poisoning them is rather inhumane. The goal is not to destroy but to save. To save the birds they turn off all the lights to make it is dark as possible. Then at one of the lower exists they open the door and outside they turn on all the lights to make it as bright as possible. The bird instinctively flies to the light and escapes.

When we look around us, the culture in our world seems to be getting darker. The longer we as a people do not come to Jesus the darker and darker things become. In that darkness, Jesus shines even brighter. As he shines, the stronger our instinct is to come to him.

Do things look dark? Are things getting darker in your life? The darker things get the closer we need to be to him who said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12

Our Vacation Bible School theme this year has been all about Jesus as “the light of the world.” It is called ILLUMINATION STATION! Jesus wants you and me to reflect him and his light to the world, thus becoming ILLUMINATION STATIONS!

This Sunday, Josh McVey, our Associate Pastor and VBS director will bring a message for us titled, JESUS IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD, based on the John 8:12 passage. I hope you will come and share in this exciting message an celebrate the Light of the World with us and our VBS kiddos.

Becoming an ILLUMINATION STATION with you,

Jon
