The Upward Look, by Jon Forrest
The Glory of Hope
A woman walked into a doctor’s office. She sat down in the waiting room. When her turn to see to the doctor, she described all of her symptoms. These symptoms were unlike anything he had ever heard. The doctor ran some tests and stepped out of the room. When he returned, the doctor said to the woman, “Well, I have good news and bad news.” The woman said, “I’d like to hear the good news first please.” The doctor replied, “The good news is we’re naming a disease after you!”
It appears that even with the worst of news, you can always find something positive if you look for it. In the 8th chapter of Romans, Paul reminds us that even when life is a struggle, when we suffer for our faith or over the pains of daily life, we should not make a big deal over it because we can lean on God’s promise that God will one day reveal glory in us. In other words, no trouble we have is worth whining about because of the Hope we have in Christ.
This Sunday we will look at the incredible revelation of this Hope that comes through the Holy Spirit as we continue our series of messages titled,
LIFE IN THE SPIRIT When God Moves in to Stay. The sermon is titled The Spirit Gives Hope based on the text, Romans 8:18-25. Our flesh tends to get bogged down in the negatives of the human experience, but when we walk in the Spirit, Hope floods into our circumstances and washes the power of the negative away.
The follower of Christ looks forward to his return or the event of death when we move into the presence of the Lord. I hope you will come Sunday and be encouraged by the message God has for you.
Living in Hope,
Jon
