The Upward Look, by Jon Forrest
Secure in Christ, the Ark of Our Salvation
A man once came to the great evangelist, D. L. Moody and said he was worried because he didn’t feel saved. Moody asked, “Was Noah safe in the ark?” “Certainly he was,” the man replied. “Well, what made him safe, his feeling or the ark?” The inquirer got the point. “How foolish I’ve been!” he said. “It is not my feeling; it is Christ who saves!”
When God saved Noah and his family from the world-wide flood, you know there had to be concern about the untested vessel that they had made with their own hands. However, Noah had the assurance that he had built the gigantic boat to the specifications and requirements given him by God. In comedian, Bill Cosby’s well-known routine and spoof of the Noah story, he has Noah asking God, “What’s a cubit?” Well, Noah knew that a cubit was the distance from his elbow to his fingertips. So, how was he to know if he used his own arm for the cubit that he would get the right size. It’s simple. God made Noah and knew exactly how long his cubit would be and therefore exactly how many cubits to order Noah to use. He used durable wood and made the perfect Ark of safety.
When you and I listen to God’s commands on how to place our lives in the hands of Christ and receive his salvation and protection we can be assured of his protection and safety from the attacks of Satan, our adversary. Scripture often refers to us as being in Christ or Christ being in us. That merger is our security for all eternity. For eternal safety, run to Jesus and he will hold you in his everlasting arms. He will be your Ark in the storms of life.
This Sunday we begin a brand-new series of messages that I am calling The FCC Summer Cruise. We will use nautical themes and illustrations that will help people understand the Gospel, the plan of God for our lives, God’s love for us, the importance of following God, and other important Christian concepts. This Sunday is The Gospel Ship as we compare the ARK to God’s Salvation, based on Genesis 6:12-22 and other passages. Plan to be with us as we seek our security in Jesus Christ, the Ark of our salvation.
Assured with you in Him,
Jon
